Home Secretary Jacqui Smith, who officially launched the Biometric face scanner trial at Manchester airport, said: “The UK has one of the toughest borders in the world and we are determined to ensure it stays that way.
“Our hi-tech electronic borders system will allow us to count all foreign nationals in and out of the UK, while checking them against watch-lists.”
I have spent the last 14 days riding across Europe. It has been a pleasure and a delight. European borders are now part of the Shengen agreement where you can literally travel uninterrupted from Finland to Spain. I often stopped at borders merely to photograph the name of the country encircled by the 12 Gold stars of the Union as a souvenir. I was then on my way.
Upon returning to the UK I observed check after check, concrete blockades, cameras, scanners. It was akin to a sci-fi movie or Beirut. Why does Jacqui Smith want to make the UK borders the toughest to enter? I don’t want to live in a police state like this anymore. If Jacqui’s government had not been sticking it’s nose into other countries problems we wouldn’t be under siege and would be enjoying free movement which is enjoyed by our European neighbours.
despite this tough border claim I have come to realise that the UK is a cold, wet, crime ridden, depressing, run down pit of misery. There is no civic pride or respect for property or belongings.
George Orwell was right!
