I woke up to the scene above. Bear in mind it has pissed it down all summer… AGAIN! It’s now 4 days away from October and it is an idyllic scene. The air was crisp and impromptu camp was abuzz with the sound of anticipation. Breakfast was being cooked or sought after from elsewhere. Off Road gear was being put on and others were keen to get to the TT shop to buy some bling. 3 days before pay day I couldn’t purchase any farkels which is probably not a bad thing.

My first objective was breakfast followed by a sneaky shave in the disabled loo of TT and then the road ride at 11am.

By 11am we were all set to do a 60 mile ride around the Beacons using the two man drop off technique. This worked. At the last minute Charley turned up and was coming on the ride. We then had to wait for a camera man. In my haste to setup my own camera on the bike using cable ties I didn’t notice whether a camera man did arrive or even if he was on the ride with us. Someone was on and F650GS filming me as I rode down the twisties but the fact I could see their bare ankles made me worry for their welfare. I had visions of them coming off and getting some serious gravel rash.. at least.

The roads were amazing, the scenery spectacular and the riders were a good bunch.

We got back in time for lunch and the start of Austin Vince’s talk on ‘Travel on the cheap’

If you ever get the opportunity to see this man talk, do so. He is a natural orator and a very very funny guy. He has a lot of energy and enthusiasm for adventure motorcycling and he had a certain ‘George Doors’ quality about him. I laughed very hard for 2 hours. Considering he was given a 45 minute slot were were very lucky to get such an informative and entertaining travel log.

After Austin’s talk there was an opportunity to get some food a drink and talk to other riders, admire the bikes, admire the accessories and talk of travel past, present and future.
