Last year on two separate occasions I had to cross a ford in the road. One in Derbyshire and one in Warwickshire. I quickly realised it was a lot of fun and was keen to find more… But how do you find small fords and river crossings?
I was distracted by the planning for Sibirsky Extreme and in the end it became another thing added to my ‘To Do’ list.
Then I purchased a copy of TBM magazine and I made a discovery, or more accurately Lois Price made a discovery and published it in the magazine.

Wet roads is a fabulously useful website. I’m a web designer by trade and see clients want ever more complicated sites that don’t do what they should which is provide you with information in the least complicated way possible.
Wet roads does what it says on the tin. Tells you where the water crossing is, how deep it’s likely to be in winter and summer, gives you a map reference, a description and a photo. Fantastic!
It covers the UK and Ireland and users can add more river crossing and fords as they discover them. A massive 1882 fords have now been identified and online including 1818 full listings with images, plus an extra 39 fords overseas!

I read Lois’s article in TBM too!
We ought to do a ‘Landmarks’ style trip (like BSH used to) on Adv and do them all.

Dunc that sounds like a good idea! I like the idea that they haven’t listed all the fords and that there is a possibility of discovering more out there
